Conway Selectboard returning to remote-only meetings

CONWAY — The Selectboard is returning to virtual meetings in the wake of the Board of Health’s mask mandate for all indoor gatherings.

Board members agreed to meet remotely until the Board of Health lifts the mask mandate, which was put into place on Sept. 8.

Sept. 24 is last day to register for Town Meeting

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Friday, Sept. 24, is the final day to register for the Special Town Meeting, which will be held Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at Frontier Regional School.

Residents can register to vote online; print out and mail a voter registration card; or complete a form that is available on top of the dropbox at Town Hall or in person at the Town Clerk’s Office.

The Town Clerk’s Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24.

DCR closing tower at Mount Sugarloaf

DEERFIELD — The state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will implement intermittent closures at the Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation Observation Tower from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to accommodate repair work between Sept. 20 and Oct. 1.

According to a DCR press release, sections under repair will be marked and visitors are asked to avoid those areas.

Permits available for Deerfield town-wide tag sale

DEERFIELD — Permits are available for Deerfield’s town-wide tag sale, which will be held Oct. 2.

Permits are available at the Selectboard Office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for $5.

First Church of Deerfield hosting organ concert

DEERFIELD — The First Church of Deerfield is hosting its second “The Brick Church Music Series” concert of the season on Oct. 3, at 3 p.m.

Mark Steinbach, a Fulbright scholar and the organist at Brown University, will play music by J.S. Bach, Philip Glass, Mozart and Anton Heiler.

A donation of $10 to $20 is suggested at the door as a fundraiser for the church. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Historic Deerfield offering Decorative Arts Trust student scholarships

DEERFIELD — Historic Deerfield is offering a limited number of scholarships to attend its “Skilled Hands and Cultivated Minds: Art and Education in the Early Republic” virtual forum that will be held Oct. 22 and 23.

Scholarships will be awarded to college undergraduate and graduate students on a first-come, first-served basis. All recipients will receive a complementary membership to the Decorative Arts Trust for one year.

The virtual forum will bring academic and museum professionals together to discuss the development of early New England education, drawn and copied maps, and objects from Historic Deerfield’s collection.

Tilton Library hosting story times

SOUTH DEERFIELD — Tilton Library is hosting two small group story times for young children every Wednesday at 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. in the Children’s Room.

The library is hopeful these events will help teach young children how to sit in a circle and listen to a leader read a book, to take turns while playing circle games and to share space while on a treasure hunt.
