Cushman Library seeking teen group logo contest entries

BERNARDSTON — Cushman Library is calling on young artists to submit creative designs for a logo contest for the library’s new teen programming group, called the Teen Advisors of Cushman Library, or TACL.

Assistant Librarian Ellis Townsley said the library is opening the contest for anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 who is interested in libraries and what they have to offer. Entries for the contest should be related to the name of the group or take inspiration from the acronym TACL.

The logo contest winner will receive a $25 gift certificate to World Eye Bookshop in Greenfield.

Email images of logo entries with the artist’s name and age to Townsley at etownsley@cwmars.org. Send submissions as a JPEG or PDF file. Entries submitted by Oct. 15 will be prioritized, however Townsley said a few late entries may be considered.

Northfield ballet to detail Pilgrims’ story

NORTHFIELD — “Anchored: The Pilgrim Story,” a ballet created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ arrival to the New World, will be performed at The Moody Center auditorium on Sunday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m.

“Anchored” is a collaboration between the nonprofit FirstLoveWorks Inc. and the Ballet Magnificat! Christian ballet company. According to a press release from FirstLoveWorks, “Anchored” spotlights significant scenes such as the Pilgrims’ tumultuous crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, the signing of the Mayflower Compact, the intensity of the first winter, the long-lasting peace treaty with the Wampanoag tribe and the festive harmony of the First Thanksgiving.

The performance in Northfield is one of three planned in Massachusetts. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $17.50 for children ages 13 and under. There is a 10 percent discount for groups of eight or more, and a 20 percent discount for groups of 20 or more. Visit pilgrimballet.com to buy tickets.

Tickets for sale for chicken barbecue

WARWICK — The Warwick Firemen’s Association is hosting its annual chicken barbecue at the Fire Station on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m.

Appalachian Mountain Club, Mount Grace offering hike

NORTHFIELD — The Appalachian Mountain Club and Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust are offering a hike Sunday on the New England National Scenic Trail and connecting trails, ending at the Richardson-Zlogar Cabin to enjoy the view, refreshments and remarks.

Hikers are encouraged to meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at the parking area at the top of Alexander Hill Road. The hike will either begin from there or participants will carpool/shuttle to the Gulf Road trailhead. Masks will be required in shared transportation.

This event is open to the public and will occur rain or shine. Registration is required at bit.ly/39dQSls.

The Moody Center offers self-guided tours through app

NORTHFIELD — The Moody Center encourages the public to download a new app and experience a self-guided tour of its campus, virtually or in person.

With The Moody Center’s new Prayer Walk App, available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play, visitors can experience a self-guided tour anytime either virtually or by walking the grounds of the Northfield campus, according to a newsletter announcing the app. The historic sites on The Moody Center campus that are featured on the tour include the D.L. Moody Birthplace, Revell Hall, Moody Homestead, Doll House, the auditorium, Martyrs Grove and Round Top.
