SUNDERLAND — Two residents were transported to the hospital as a result of a structure fire on North Silver Lane early Friday morning.
Two Sunderland Fire Department engines arrived at the scene at 2:30 a.m. to find a fully involved blaze, according to a press release from Fire Chief Steven Benjamin. With help from other local fire departments, first responders brought the fire under control at 4:34 a.m. The house suffered extensive damage.
“The fire was put out efficiently with good work by the fire crews on scene,” Benjamin wrote in an email. “The house suffered extensive fire damage and substantial repairs will be necessary to make it habitable.”
Two residents of the home were taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the release. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the victims.
Benjamin said he is unable to comment on the status or injuries of the victims transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Benjamin and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Multiple engines, tankers and firefighters from neighboring Amherst, Hadley, Greenfield, Montague, Leverett and South Deerfield fire departments responded for mutual aid, along with the Sunderland Police Department, South County EMS and Massachusetts State Police.
