NORTHFIELD — Weather permitting, the section of Gulf Road between Alexander Hill Road and Orange Road will be closed this week to repair storm damage, according to a post on the town website. Drivers are advised to follow detour signs and expect delays.
LEYDEN — The Board of Health was notified on Aug. 20 by an epidemiologist in Boston and Lisa White, a Franklin Regional Council of Governments public health nurse, that Leyden had a positive test for a mosquito carrying West Nile Virus in the northeast quadrant of town.
According to a notice from the Board of Health, this does not change Leyden’s risk level but should motivate residents to adopt the following practices:
■Empty any standing water outside.
■Limit your exposure outside between dusk and dawn, as these are peak mosquito times.
■Wear long sleeves, pants and socks to reduce mosquito bite risk.
■Apply insect repellent when going outside.
Leyden was among the Franklin County towns to opt out of the state Department of Agricultural Resources’ mosquito control plan.
WARWICK — A new website for the effort to start an independent elementary school at the former Warwick Community School has gone live at school-redesign.com.
According to Warwick Education Committee Vice Chair Tom Wyatt, the website, which was put together by members of the committee led by Emily Hemingway, includes a “What’s New” section with media articles and town newsletter articles; an overview of the school’s curriculum and philosophy when it reopens; information on the school’s 25-acre campus, including trails, gardens and the pavilion; partners Warwick has in this project; a list of team members and supporters involved; and FAQs (frequently asked questions).
