CHARLEMONT — Ambulance personnel from Charlemont, Hawley and Colrain responded to Berkshire East Saturday at 12:35 p.m. for a mountain biking accident that involved airlifting the patient for treatment.
Hawley Fire Chief Greg Cox said Berkshire East personnel supplied initial treatment for the biker, a juvenile who sustained a leg injury, before bringing him to an ambulance to be taken to Hawlemont Regional Elementary School, where a helicopter could land.
“It was a little delayed because of the location on the mountain bike course,” Cox said of the response. “It was probably an hour before he left on the LifeFlight.”
Cox said the boy was in “considerable pain.” He was flown to a Level 1 trauma center, according to a post on the Hawley Fire Department’s Facebook page.
