Easements for Canal District project approved

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard executed an Order of Taking last week for three temporary easements for the Canal District Gateway Enhancement Project, involving 44 and 36 Canal St. in Turners Falls. This will allow for construction on private property from two different property owners.

River Bluff Group buying Industrial Boulevard property

MONTAGUE — The Montague Economic Development and Industrial Corporation executed a deed of sale for the 7.887-acre 180 Industrial Blvd. property to River Bluff Group LLC last week for $157,500.

The sale involves a review of the design plans for an industrial greenhouse. Following Selectboard approval of the project, members of the corporation discussed issues of security, view obstruction, smell and efficiency before coming to a unanimous vote in favor of the sale.

On-call engineering services approved

MONTAGUE — The Montague Water Pollution Control Facility was granted on-call engineering services in an agreement with the Wright-Pierce environmental engineering firm.

Alley between Third St. and Unity Park ballfield to close

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard approved closing a 125-foot section of the alley between 151 Third St. and the Unity Park ballfield in Turners Falls through Dec. 1.

This decision was made to allow Pioneer Valley Brewery to better use nearby outdoor space, as well as to allow greater accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists who frequent the pathway.

Rain garden redesign approved

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard approved minor revisions to the design of the Town Hall rain garden last week that would scale back construction to preserve more parking space.

There was further discussion about removing the Department of Public Works shed currently on the premises.

Land sold for FRTA bus facility

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard executed a purchase and sale agreement for 5.052 acres off of Sandy Lane in Turners Falls to the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) for $125,000 last week. The land will be used to house a bus maintenance facility.

Businesses granted permission for tents

MONTAGUE — The Selectboard last week granted businesses permission to set up 10-by-10-foot “pop-up style” tents along Avenue A, Third Street and Second Street in Turners Falls through August.

Businesses plan to use these tents to offer outdoor services on days with good weather.

Liquor license changes for St. Kazimierz Society

TURNERS FALLS — St. Kazimierz Society requested to alter the premises for its liquor license after downsizing its location at 197 Avenue A. The new license will encompass the 36,000-square-foot first-floor property.

Montague student named to President’s List

MONTAGUE — Sahaley Paige DuPree of Montague has been named to the President’s List at Husson University in Bangor, Maine, for the spring semester.

To make the President’s List, a student must be enrolled as an undergraduate, carry a full-time course load of 12 credit hours, complete all attempted courses in the time allotted for the semester and achieve a 3.8 to 4.0 grade point average for the semester. Credits earned from pass/fail classes do not count toward meeting the minimum credit hour requirement.
