A pair of local golfers punched their tickets to this summer’s Mass. Amateur Public Links championship on Tuesday, as the event held a qualifying tournament at Gardner Municipal Golf Course.

Northfield Golf Club’s Jesse Morgan shot 1-over-par 72 to earn a share of fifth place and one of 17 qualifying spots. The championship proper is Aug. 17-18 at Westover Golf Course in Granby.

Mark Waskiewicz of Crumpin-Fox Club also shot 72 and earned an entry into the August field. Wachusett Country Club’s Bob Blackmar was the medalist on Tuesday, shooting 3-under 68.

CFC’s Tim Hubbard and the Country Club of Greenfield’s Tom Herzig both shot 77 and were listed as alternates for the APL.

Youth baseball

GMLB Majors playoffs

Evan Tsipenyuk tossed four hitless innings, striking out six batters, and Gilmore & Farrell blanked New Fortune, 16-0, in a GMLB Majors Division contest Tuesday night at Lunt Field.

Logan Tyler doubled twice in the victory for G &F, while Nico Siano and Wayde Bardwell each slashed a pair of hits in the win.

GMLB AAA final set

Conner Bergeron, Asa Bouchard and Nicholas Ward each had three hits while Jakob George knocked in the winning RBI to lead Denny’s Pantry to a 6-4 win over Rotary Club in the Greenfield Minor League Baseball Triple A semifinals on Monday. 

DeSean Carter hit a single and Levi Dunn doubled in the loss. 

• In the second semifinal game of the night, Brendan Clough pitched well and hit a single and a double to help lead Smitty’s Pub to a 13-12 win over Aubuchon Hardware. 

Bryce Zraunig hit a triple and a single while Aaron Turner doubled and Benedict Shivone hit a single in the win. 

Clayton Massa had a pair of hits, Amasa Shippee tripled and Carter Malouin, Osiah Ballard, Topher Miller, Ryan Capen and Lexi Cooley-Sanieski each hit safely in the loss. 

Denny’s and Smitty’s will face off in a best-of-three championship series, beginning Wednesday. 

Soccer

Devin Niles had two goals and an assist while Payton Sladeski, Matt Sicard, Fernando Saravia and Aidan Valderrama scored to lead Frontier to a 6-1 win over Enfield in a high school summer soccer game on Monday. 

Niko Lorantos made eight saves in goal in the win.
