ATHOL — The woman whose body was recovered from the Millers River on Wednesday has been identified as Julia Okrusko, 37, of Athol.
According to First Assistant District Attorney Steve Gagne, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner hasn’t ruled on a cause of death, but no foul play or criminal activity is suspected.
Local first responders recovered Okrusko’s body from the Millers River near the L.S. Starrett Co. midday Wednesday after being called to the scene at around 10:45 a.m. Her body was found facedown in the river near the dam below the Crescent Street Bridge.
Michelle Richotte, executive assistant to Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan, said previously that Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office along with officers from the Athol Police Department are investigating the incident.
Units from the Athol Police and Fire departments were on scene for about 2½ hours on Wednesday. The body was removed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner at around 1:30 p.m.
