ATHOL — Local first responders recovered a woman’s body from the Millers River near the L.S. Starrett Co. midday on Wednesday.
Few details were available Wednesday afternoon. The body was found facedown in the river near the dam below the Crescent Street Bridge. No approximate age or a town of residence for the victim has been released.

“The body was transported to the medical examiner’s office, who will determine identification and the cause of death,” Richotte said. “The Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office along with Athol Police are investigating the incident.”
Units from the Athol Police and Fire departments were on scene for about 2½ hours. The body was removed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner at around 1:30 p.m.
