Although many state legislatures are passing bills to limit voting rights, the Massachusetts legislature is working to expand voting rights. Voting by mail, expanded early voting opportunities, and same-day voter registration are all included the Votes Act, H.805 and S.459. Further, the Votes Act will increase electoral security.
We voters of Massachusetts enjoyed expanded voting rights during the 2020 Presidential Election. Despite the raging pandemic, hundreds of thousands more people voted in that election than in the 2016 Presidential election (Wikipedia.com lists 3,271,768 ballots were cast in 2016 compared with 3,631,402 in 2020.)
Those expanded voting rights are about to expire. The state legislature needs to pass the Votes Act now.
Ensure the ability to vote and the increased security to guarantee the integrity of the vote. Urge Gov. Baker, Sen. Adam Hinds, and Rep. Natalie Blais to support the Votes Act. Both Sen. Hinds and Rep. Blais were active in the creation of this proposed legislation and strongly support it.
