GREENFIELD — James Barnes of Greenfield happened to purchase two winning lottery tickets on the same day back in April, securing him over $1.5 million before taxes.

The first was a winner for $10, and the other was the sixth and final winner of the Massachusetts Lottery’s “$100,000 a Year for Life” game.

According to the Massachusetts Lottery’s website, Barnes chose to receive his grand prize in a one-time payment of $1,540,000 before taxes, and he plans to buy a house with his winnings.

The two winning tickets were sold by Anthony’s Package Store, at 12 Pearson Blvd. in Gardener, where Barnes had stopped to buy gas. The store will receive a bonus of $20,000 for its sale of the ticket, according to the Massachusetts Lottery.
