GREENFIELD — If you consider yourself to be “exercise phobic” and want to start some sort of regimen, Franklin County’s YMCA leaders say the organization has a new program for you.

Walk With Ease will provide structure, a friendly group to walk with and a YMCA leader who will help participants do it safely and effectively.

The Arthritis Foundation has created the free program and the local YMCA will offer it over the course of six weeks, three times per week, beginning Monday at 10 a.m.

According to YMCA Personal Fitness Trainer Nancy Blair, the program will be held outside. People will gather at the front of Franklin County’s YMCA at 451 Main St. in Greenfield and walk for between 10 and 30 minutes.

Leaders will offer information on how walkers can make this a successful and enjoyable activity, including how to set goals and keep records of successes, which Blair said makes a difference. The program is oriented toward people who are new to regular walking and exercising, but are determined to become more active and healthy.
