Senior Center holding food drive to support pantry

BERNARDSTON — The Senior Center will hold a food drive to benefit its pantry on Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in collaboration with the Highway Department.

Senior Center Director Hayley Bolton said the Highway Department is lending its new truck to be filled up with the collected food donations. The center seeks donations of canned fruits and vegetables, cereal, pasta, canned tuna/chicken, peanut butter, crackers, tea and more.

April marks the one-year anniversary of the Senior Center’s first pop-up food pantry. The pop-up pantry will be open Wednesday, April 28, at 3:30 p.m. Bolton said the pop-up pantry has grown to meet the needs of the community, and is now serving up to 216 people each month.

Additionally, on April 16, in celebration of Earth Day, the Senior Center will hand out lilac seeds with its to-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The seeds are provided by the town tree warden, Bolton said, and she invited the Bernardston Elementary School kindergarten class to visit. Call 413-648-5413 to request your seeds.
