LEYDEN — In lieu of traditional Easter egg hunts, the Leyden United Methodist Church and Leyden Rifle Club are hosting an Easter Drive-Thru on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Emily Herron-Clark, a church member organizing the event, said this is the second year in a row the church has been unable to hold its regular Easter egg hunt due to pandemic-related health safety restrictions from the Board of Health. Instead, this year’s drive-thru activity will see volunteers and the Easter Bunny handing out goody bags, while supplies last.

“We usually do an Easter egg hunt, but were weren’t able to do it last year and we were trying to think of something we could do this year,” Herron-Clark said.

She said she hopes to see “at least 100 kids” and their families for Saturday’s drive-thru. After a difficult year with the church building closed, and congregation members being unable to get together each week, Herron-Clark said the organizers “felt like it would be nice to get out and be able to share something with the community.”

Families are asked to remain in their vehicles and wear a mask while stopping by the drive-thru event at the church, 15 West Leyden Road. Traffic will be directed to enter by the town common along Leyden Road, then drive around the back of Town Hall to the upper parking lot following the signs.

Herron-Clark said the church will also accept emptied, plastic Easter eggs for use in future Easter eggs hunts that will hopefully resume in 2022.
