NORTHFIELD — In recognition of the efforts of town leadership to work collaboratively to address COVID-19 mandates and requirements, the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) has presented Northfield with a fiscal year 2020 Risk Management Award.

The award was presented during MIIA’s annual business meeting in January. MIIA is the non-profit insurance arm of the Massachusetts Municipal Association, insuring more than 400 cities, towns and public entities across the state.

“I was actually pretty surprised,” Northfield Town Administrator Andrea Llamas said of receiving the award. “A lot of the larger communities have the resources and staff to do some pretty amazing stuff. So I was honored to be recognized really.”

According to a press release announcing the award, Llamas, who was chair of the Small Town Administrators of Massachusetts until last fall, was influential when the COVID-19 pandemic began. She designed and shared a COVID-19 plan to be used by Northfield and other small towns. She also worked with MIIA to sponsor a discussion titled, “What We Know and Don’t Know and What We Need or Want to Know in Relation to Risk Management During Reopening.”

“I appreciate all the hard work that MIIA does to reach out to those of us in smaller communities,” Llamas said. “They make it easier for those of us with more limited resources to stay up on all the necessary information, for both our staff and our community.”

“The town of Northfield, and Andrea Llamas in particular, is a tremendous and effective partner with MIIA,” MIIA Executive Vice President Stanley Corcoran said in the release. “We congratulate Northfield for its continued commitment to minimizing risk and keeping employees and the public safe.”
