SHELBURNE FALLS — “A Christmas Carol,” a play adaptation by Mike Haley of Conway and John Reese of Greenfield, will be read over Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.
Viewers are invited to read, or simply watch. The Arms Library and Footlights at the Falls, both of Shelburne Falls, are sponsoring the event.
“This will be a relaxed, fun sharing of a fantastic, local interpretation of the book,” said Jackie Walsh, founder of Footlights at the Falls.
Readers may come with no experience in acting or lots of years doing it, according to Walsh. It is an informal reading, with no rehearsals.
Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” recounts the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve, forcing him to reconsider his lonely, miserly life. In 2010, Haley and Reese transformed the classic novella into the play, which Old Deerfield Productions originally produced at the Academy of Music.
Readers will switch parts often so they can experience several characters, including Scrooge, the ghosts, Tiny Tim (Scrooge’s benevolent nephew) and many others, according to Walsh.

Scripts are available to pick up before the reading. Those wanting to read should reach out before the show. Audience members don’t need to register in advance.
