GREENFIELD — The city is working with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG) to update its Open Space and Recreation Plan, something it does every seven years.
Recreation Director Christy Moore said a survey is available online that residents can fill out, or they can pick up a paper copy at the Greenfield Public Library or City Hall.
“We announced the survey on Facebook,” Moore said. “There’s a link there, as well.”
The survey consists of more than two dozen questions, some just basic demographics of the person filling it out and others about their preferences.
“The answers will guide our decisions about protecting and maintaining open space and recreational space for the next seven years,” she said. “Updating our plan means we’ll be eligible for grants.”
Moore said the city’s ultimate goal is to conserve land and expand open space.
“We’ve done a lot based on the plan so far,” she said. “And we have a lot more we’d like to do, which will be included in the updated plan.”
Moore said examples of what the city has done with some grants that fall under the plan include creating the splash pad in Hillside Park and renovating Green River Park, which includes the city’s first dog park.
“Those, for instance, would not have been eligible for grants if plans hadn’t been in place,” Moore explained. “That’s why we’d like the feedback the survey will provide us. We’re asking the people who live, work and play here in Greenfield. They’re the ones who benefit.”
Surveys are due by Dec. 18. Moore said the city is making sure the projects it chooses are accessible to everyone.
