COLRAIN — The Colrain Veterans Memorial Park Association will hold a fundraiser Saturday for a new veterans park it’s planning for next spring or summer.
The event will be held at the Transfer Station on Charlemont Road at 8 a.m.
Association member Joan McQuade said the group will sell coffee and doughnuts until they are gone.
“It will be COVID-19 safe, with people wearing masks,” she said. “We’re also putting things in bags so we don’t have people touching everything.”
McQuade said Pine Hill Orchards and Hager’s Farm Market are donating the doughnuts.
“We’ll also have small Constitution booklets where people can grab one,” she said.
McQuade said people will not only have the opportunity to buy doughnuts and coffee to support the efforts, but also can make donations by cash or check when they get there.
“We sorely need funds to help us so we can create this beautiful park,” she said. “It will be in the center of town. We’re going to buy plaques and benches, signs and such. We’ll be honoring the veterans of Colrain who fought in World War II, the Korean conflict and Vietnam.
“It will be a place where we can recognize our veterans on Veterans Day each year,” she added. “This is a newly formed group, so it will take us some time. We’ll be doing more as time goes on.”
