BOSTON — Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern has overcome a challenge from Republican Tracy Lovvorn to win a 12th term representing Massachusetts’ 2nd Congressional District.
McGovern, of Worcester, has been a member of the state’s all-Democratic congressional delegation since his election in 1996. He defeated Lovvorn, of Grafton, who had expressed support for the QAnon conspiracy theory. The two also were opponents in 2018.
QAnon is a wide-ranging conspiracy fiction spread largely through the internet, centered on the belief that President Donald Trump is waging a secret campaign against enemies in the “deep state” and a child sex trafficking ring run by satanic pedophiles and cannibals.
In Franklin County, McGovern represents Warwick, Orange, New Salem, Northfield, Erving, Wendell, Shutesbury, Leverett, Montague, Gill, Sunderland, Whately, Deerfield and Greenfield.
Additionally, 1st Congressional District Rep. Richard Neal ran unopposed. Neal represents the Franklin County towns of Bernardston, Leyden, Colrain, Shelburne, Conway, Ashfield, Buckland, Hawley, Charlemont, Heath, Rowe and Monroe.
