GREENFIELD — Poet’s Seat Health Care Center’s staff and administrator stood in the rain for two hours Thursday to distribute free dinners to first responders, health-care providers and community members.
“We are a health-care facility that wants to be part of keeping our community healthy,” commented co-owner and Administrator Michele Carney.
The nursing home on High Street directed traffic into its parking lot, offering at least one bag with two meals per vehicle. When people got home, they found two bowls of butternut squash soup, two roasted turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce and two chocolate chip bars.
“We met many people living out of their cars,” Carney said. “We had so many people stop just to say ‘thank you.’”
Poet’s Seat Health Care Center handed out 107 bags with 214 meals to families and others, including police officers, firefighters and Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) employees.
“We plan to deliver some meals to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in the morning,” Carney added. “We want to support those who always support us. It’s all about community and connection.”
