NORTHFIELD — At the recommendation of Police Chief Robert Leighton, the Selectboard recently appointed Jakob Davidson of South Deerfield as an auxiliary police officer with the Northfield Police Department.
Leighton said this is an “in-training position.” The term ends and is up for re-appointment on Dec. 31.
Davidson is currently a student at Greenfield Community College, and will retain his current employment with Thomas Aquinas College’s Department of Campus Safety.
BERNARDSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is replacing the sidewalk on Church Street (Route 10). The project, being carried out by Gomes Construction Co. of Ludlow, is expected to take about three weeks.
WARWICK — The Warwick Free Public Library will host a book reading via Zoom at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 with longtime Greenfield Recorder reporter Richie Davis, who recently released his first book, “Inner Landscapes: True Tales from Extraordinary Lives.”
The book, published by Haley’s of Athol, contains true tales of extraordinary people gleaned from Davis’ more than 40 years of writing in Western Massachusetts.

NORTHFIELD — A free flu clinic will be held at Town Hall on Friday, Oct. 23, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

BERNARDSTON — While the Senior Center is busy hosting events in the first two weeks of October, other events are scheduled for the days leading up to Halloween, including another pop-up food pantry and a magic show.
■Oct. 26, 1 p.m. — Ed the Wizard will visit the Senior Center for some Halloween magic in the parking lot.
■Oct. 28, 4:30 p.m. — The Senior Center will host another pop-up food pantry. Seniors who want to receive food should contact the Senior Center at 413-834-7200 to sign up. Signing up is necessary each month. If you’d like to donate food, call the same number to make arrangements or drop the food off on the bench in the parking lot.
■Oct. 30, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — The Senior Center will hand out Halloween candy using a drive-thru method. Staff are asking those who stop by to dress up in their costumes.
