GREENFIELD — The Children’s Advocacy Center of Franklin County and North Quabbin is this month’s beneficiary of the Big Y Community Bag and Giving Tag Program, so every time a customer buys a reusable bag for $2.50, the agency receives a $1 donation.

“We are so excited to share this,” said Children’s Advocacy Center Executive Director Irene Woods. “The program is designed to make it easy for customers of Big Y stores to contribute to their local community while supporting the environment.”

Anyone can participate in the ongoing program by simply purchasing a reusable bag at checkout and following the instructions on the attached “giving tag.”

“It’s a great way to support the environment and fundraise for our causes,” Woods said. “If everyone on our email list purchased just one bag and directed the $1 donation to Children’s Advocacy Center, we would receive a donation of $446.”

Woods said she hopes everyone purchases just one bag and tells their friends, family and relatives to do the same.

“The more people who learn about the program, purchase a bag and use the attached tag to direct the donation to us, the more money we will raise,” she said.

The Big Y Community Bag and Giving Tag Program was launched in January 2019, facilitating community support with the goal of making a difference in communities where shoppers live and work. Since its launch, the program has supported more than 1,250 nonprofits and provided more than $150,000 in donations, the program’s website states.
