ERVING — A woman was transported to Athol Hospital Friday evening after a fall at Farley Ledges.
“She was on a belay line when she fell off the cliff,” said Erving Fire Chief Philip Wonkka. “She was caught with the safety line. It was estimated to be about 10 feet.”
The woman was with a group of people climbing in the same area, Wonkka said.
The Erving Fire Department responded to the call, which was reported just after 5 p.m. Wonkka requested assistance from the Northfield Fire Department, Orange Fire Department, Gill Fire Department and the Western Massachusetts Technical Rescue Team for their expertise in belay teams.
Members of the Gill Police Department and Erving Police Department also responded to assist in setting up a possible landing zone on Route 2, in case the woman needed to be transported by helicopter, he said.
However, Wonkka said LifeStar was ultimately canceled, as the woman appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Instead, the patient — whose age and residency were unknown to Wonkka on Saturday — was alert and conscious when she was transported to Athol Hospital.
