Behind a 12-hit attack, Frontier Alber Hearing Services captured the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle championship on Saturday.

The club took a 2-0 lead right off the bat and handled its business from there, defeating Brattleboro, 7-3, in the final. Frontier finished the tournament 4-0 after a regular-season mark of 12-3-1.

Tynan Creagh had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs to pace the offensive attack. Creagh got the team off and running with a two-run double in the first inning.

Tom Alber, Ben Zaranek and Kevin Baumann all had two hits, while Kyle Barnes singled and drove in two runs. Gehrig Brynda, Ben Martino and Dylan Martin each added a hit.

Maxwell Edwards snagged the win on the mound, tossing six innings for Frontier with three strikeouts. The club aided him with stellar defense, committing just one error, and Barnes nailed down the title in the seventh.

In the semifinals earlier Saturday, Frontier eliminated the Hilltown Hardwood Flooring West County Warriors with a 6-1 victory.

Brynda tossed a gem, striking out three while allowing just three hits and one walk in a complete game effort. He helped himself with two hits and three RBIs, while Martino also smacked two hits and Edwards had a hit and an RBI.

Frontier scored four times in the first inning and added two more in the third to set the tone.

West County scored its run in the fourth inning, when Cullen Brown doubled and scored on a Jaden Moore double. Rosco Palmer also had a hit, while the trio of Brody Baird, Sam Schreiber and Moore handled the pitching duties.

Golf

CCG Junior Championship

A battle for first place came down to just two strokes, as Ryan Cote held off Gunnar Moore to capture the Country Club of Greenfield’s Junior Club Championship over the weekend.

Cote shot 73 to claim the title, just ahead of Moore, who fired a 75. Both golfers have been on fire this summer, and the club championship lived up to some big expectations. Nate Blanchard finished third with a 90.

Ryan Blanchard carded an impressive round of 79 to take the title in the Junior Girls Division. Gabe Mota won the Pre-Junior Flight with a 93, followed by Owen Finley (101).

Thomas Senior Championship

Charlie Peters shot 76, good enough to capture the Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club’s Senior Men’s Championship on Sunday.

Peters’ total was three shots clear of runner-up John O’Riley (79), while Ken Adams was third (80) and Mike Waterman nabbed fourth (81).

Ned Nichols had the low net of 65, followed by Bill Roussel Sr. (66), Dennis Chaffee (69) and Ted Legere (70).

Sally Malloy posted an impressive round of 82 to claim the women’s title on Sunday. Leslie Heath was the runner-up at 87, while Jane Smith took third with a 90.

CFC Member ABCD Bramble

The team of Erik Barnes, Scott Dorval, Michael Doherty and Dennis Shockro teamed to shoot 62, winning the Crumpin-Fox Club’s Member ABCD Bramble on Saturday.

Brendan Creagh, Douglas Taylor, Gene Kugler and Corrine Sysun were second at 64, followed in third by Jason Wallace, Shane Powell and Dave Puchalski at 65.

Timothy Crowley, Thomas Bergeron, Michael O’Connell and Alice Shea won a tiebreaker to take low net honors at 46.

Closest to the pin winners were Douglas Taylor at No. 3 (4 feet) and Peg Barnes at No. 11 (13-0). Keith Burch won longest drive for the men’s division and Jill Waldron took the women’s win.

Jon Hunt Senior Two-Ball

The duo of Jamie Crocker and David Kennedy shot 63 to capture the Jon Hunt Senior Two-Ball title at the Country Club of Greenfield on Friday.

Ed Garabacik and Carter Fasick tied for second place with Doug Riel and Jack Bresnahan, as both teams shot 65.

Phil Phillips and Jon Shea took the low net title with a 61, ahead of four teams that tied for second at 63. 

In the Senior Flight, Steve Mihalek and Mike Oleksak won a match of cards to take first place with a low gross of 68. Mark Osborn and Dave Lafleur won a match of cards with a 64 to earn the low net win. In the Super Senior Flight,  Jon Fasick and Jim Ruschioni shot 67 for low gross honors. Keith Schempp and David McDonald won a match of cards for the low net win (64).

Timmons League

The team of Jim Cadran and Ed Terault posted a low gross of 35 to take top billing at Wednesday’s Timmons League at Northfield Golf Club.

Brian Deane and Noah Harrison were next at 37.

After a match of cards, George Hall and Duff Delano had the low net with a 26, edging out Joel Cole and Mike Stephens.

Scott Powers was closest to the pin at No. 6 (22-2) and Dan Grybko was closest at No. 7 (10-0).

The match medalist with Cadran with a 36, followed by Powers, Stephens and Rodney Ebbighausen who all shot 38.
