Broadband chair to discuss progress

HAWLEY — Kirby “Lark” Thwing, chair of the four-town broadband committee, will be in the Town Office parking lot and on FreeConferenceCall.com on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. to update residents on the broadband project.

According to a notice from Hawley Administrative Assistant Cass Nawrocki, residents who participate in person must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Those who want to listen in by phone can call 978-990-5459 and enter the access code 774695#. Or, those who want to connect online can visit FreeConferenceCall.com and enter the online meeting ID kthwingjr.

If possible, residents are advised to direct questions to Thwing ahead of time by calling 413-339-0124 or emailing kthwingjr@gmail.com. The notice states that the meeting will be recorded and minutes will be posted online.

Trinity Church offering community meal

SHELBURNE FALLS — Trinity Church at 17 Severance St. will offer a free to-go meal on Friday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

According to a notice from Pastor Marguerite Sheehan, guests can drive through or walk up to collect their food. The menu includes baked chicken, corn on the cob and salad.

Registration is helpful, but not required. To register, call 413-625-2341.

Arms Library offering poetry reading

SHELBURNE FALLS — The Arms Library will hold a live poetry reading via Zoom Friday at 7 p.m.

The event, which is among the first live digital programs the Bridge Street library has held since the COVID-19 pandemic began, will feature Lauren Marie Schmidt and Martin Espada.

Schmidt is the author of three previous collections of poetry: “Two Black Eyes and a Patch of Hair Missing”; “The Voodoo Doll Parade,” selected for the Main Street Rag Author’s Choice Chapbook Series; and “Psalms of The Dining Room.” Espada is a poet and professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he teaches poetry.
