Bob Lively scored the second hole-in-one of his career over the weekend.
The Bernardston resident aced No. 2 at the Country Club of Greenfield, using a 5-iron from 148 yards to accomplish the feat. His witnesses were Bill Young, Mac Haskell and Mike Campbell.
CCG Husband and Wife Championship
Tim and Elise Rice fired a low gross of 67, good enough to capture first place at the Country Club of Greenfield’s Husband and Wife Championship over the weekend.
Raye and Rich Young were next at 70.
Brian and Sue Luippold were the low net winners with a 57, followed by the duos of Liz and Mike Archer and Roy and TC Emerson, which each totaled 61s.
CFC Open Singles
James Rosman shot 73 from the Blue Tees, taking low gross honors at Crumpin-Fox Club’s Open Singles on Saturday in Bernardston.
Will Conant was one shot back with a 74, followed by Samuel Harrison and Jim Ruschioni, who tied for third place at 75. Tying for fifth place with rounds of 76 were Jeff Sbrogna, Matt Latino, Michael Mertes and Tom Herzig.
From the Gold Tees, Peter Jenkins shot 95 for low gross honors.
Rob Beauregaurd was the low net winner from the Blue Tees, registering a score of 66, followd by Paul Mahan at 69. Charlie Congleton was third (71) and Chris Baran (72) was fourth.
Ray Van Epps was the low net winner from the Gold Tees (87).
Frontier Mantle beats West County
On the strength of 18 hits, Frontier Alber Hearing Services held onto first place in the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Mickey Mantle division behind a 16-6 win over the Hilltown Hardwood Flooring West County Warriors on Friday night in Deerfield.
Ben Martino led the way for Frontier (9-2) with four hits, including a pair of doubles, and three RBIs. Tynan Creagh had three hits and two RBIs, while Max Edwards drove in four runs and had a pair of singles. Also finishing with two hits were Dylan Martin, Ethan Russell (two RBIs) and Tyler Baranowski, while Gehrig Brynda doubled and drove in a pair and Kyle Barnes had a single and two RBIs.
Baranowski was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts.
West County’s Liam O’Donnell paced the visitors with three hits, including a double. Cullen Brown was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Tyler Dubreuil (single), Shawn Davenport (single, RBI), Reuben Bassett (single), Jayden Moore (single, RBI) and Brody Baird (single, RBI) all contributed.
Greenfield Koufax pulls away late
Locked in a 3-1 game into the sixth inning, host Greenfield Gilmore & Farrell Insurance scored eight runs in the final stanza en route to an 11-1 win over Frontier in a PVYBL Sandy Koufax game Friday at Beacon Field.
Jake Petrin got the win for Greenfield, striking out four in four innings of work. Braeden Tsipsenyuk nailed down the save, tossing a pair of scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Nico Fasulo powered the offense with two hits, including a two-run single in the sixth that helped open up a tight ballgame. Michael Pierce smacked an RBI triple in the sixth, scoring Petrin, who led off the frame with a bunt single. Cam Burnett (single), Jacob Brook (single), Tyler Yetter (RBI), Tsipenyuk (RBI) and Jackson Campbell (RBI single) all came through in the eight-run sixth.
Ethan Quinn had a hit and scored a run in the win, while Hugh Cyhowski roped a two-run double in the third inning. Devin Dubie, Brayden Thayer and Bryce Avery all scored a run.
The Valley Storm softball club will hold tryouts for the 2020/2021 season this month.
Team eligibility is based on a player’s age as of Dec. 31, 2020. All tryouts will be held at Murphy Park in Greenfield.
12U tryout dates: Aug. 11, 13, 18 and 20 – 6-8 p.m.
14U tryout dates: Aug. 11, 13, 18 and 20 – 6-8 p.m.
16U tryout dates: Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m.
18U tryout dates: Aug. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. and Aug. 6 from 5:30-7 p.m.
