Community Clothes Closet resumes, but modified

SHELBURNE FALLS — Trinity Church’s free Community Clothes Closet at the Cowell Gymnasium, 51 Maple St., experienced a soft opening this month, and will be open Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to a notice from Pastor Marguerite Sheehan, guests will not be able to go inside Cowell Gymnasium. However, at the back entrance, where food pantry staff members are distributing food to-go, guests can request the clothes they need. Then, a volunteer will bring out those items, if they’re available.

Donations should continue to be dropped off in the outdoor shed.

Broadband installation process delayed

HAWLEY — A series of complications has set back the town’s broadband installation process by about six weeks, according to Kirby “Lark” Thwing, chair of the four-town broadband committee.

WiValley, a Keene, N.H. company tasked with building Hawley’s wireless broadband network, must next finalize a few utility pole relocations, after which pole hearings must be scheduled, Thwing explained in a notice to residents.

“I expect the next batch of poles will probably not be fully installed until mid to late August,” Thwing said.

As of July 10, 130 customers had already been connected.

“That said, we know that some of those customers need a stronger signal or a different radio before they’ll be optimized,” Thwing said. “So we ask for everyone’s continued patience please.”
