Yesterday was a lifetime experience for me, and it started at the convenience store on Conway Street in Greenfield when an older man with a cane had two cups of hot coffee in a carrier trying to get in his car. I was so offended that I took his coffees in my hand and helped him get in to his car. When we got to his car he said, “Thank you for taking the time to help me.” I’m 80 years old and I know this feeling and at our ages one more day can be a blessing.
I then went to TD Bank in Greenfield and low and behold an older man was sitting on the scorching sidewalk in 90 degree heat and his face was bright red like a cooked lobster. He just had enough energy to put his hand up for some money, so I gave him some. You can talk about police brutality all you want, but wouldn’t it have been nice for a policeman to help this man of God?
We live in a society that can’t find time or the kindness in their heart to take a few minutes of our time to help someone. What if this man had died there on the streets of Greenfield? Wouldn’t it make you proud? You had two people freeze to death in a tent, but you can always find protesters on your streets and I didn’t see a one of them offer any help to this man. At any given day we could all end up like this two men I’m telling you about.
I know this paper frowns on hand-printed letters, but for once tell a real story of what’s going on in your streets. I was totally shocked by the sight of this poor man laying on red hot concrete. Is this the best you can do for one of God’s children? I wish I had a camera at the time because more than one person must have walked by this man. This story should have not waiting period to be published because it’s life.
