Braeden Tsipenyuk and Jackson Campbell combined for six strikeouts in five stellar innings, and Greenfield Gilmore & Farrell Insurance continued to roll with a 15-1 run-shortened victory over Northampton in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax contest on Thursday at Vets Field.

Ethan Quinn had a big night at the plate to pace Greenfield, as he was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Bryce Avery was also 2-for-2 and scored a pair of runs, while Devin Dubie and Michael Pierce each smacked two-run doubles for the hosts.

Jackson Petrin, Jacob Brook, Cam Burnett (double) and Hugh Cyhowski all registered a hit and drove in a run.

Greenfield returns to action Sunday night with a road trip to play Northampton.

West County Mantle wins

The Hilltown Hardwood West County Warriors scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and made those runs stand up, blanking Brattleboro, 2-0, in a PVYBL Mickey Mantle tilt Thursday night in Buckland.

Matt Pollen started on the bump for West County and got out of a bases loaded jam in the first He struck out the side in the second, before Liam O’Donnell pitched four strong innings of relief, allowing just hit and striking out five. Shawn Davenport closed out the game with a 1-2-3 seventh, recording two strikeouts.

O’Donnell was 3-for-3 to pace the offensive attack, and Reuben Bassett drove in both runs in the first inning on a single to right center field.

The Warriors are 3-1 on the season and are back at it on Sunday against Frontier.

Golf

Ashfield Community Golf

Tony Warchol led the way at the Ashfield Community Golf Club’s Thursday Morning League, as the theme for the day was adding odd holes and putts for the nine-hole outing.

Warchol shot 18 on the odd holes and amassed 13 pounts, adding an eagle on No. 1. Cyndie Stetson was next with a score of 23, while Connie Szelewicki came in second with 14 putts.

Greenfield Elks League

Keith Schempp and David McDonald’s 38½ points paced the Greenfield Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Wednesday.

Bob Ferris and Vinnie Melendez were second with 35 points, followed by Mike Larabee and Tom Rogers with 32 points. John Mackin was closest to the pin at 4 feet, 7 inches.

CFC Men’s League

Scott Dorval’s plus-11 point quota put him first in the Blue Tee Division of the Crumpin-Fox Club’s Men’s League on Thursday night.

Doug Taylor was second overall at plus-6, followed by Mark Waskiewicz in third place (plus-4), and the quartet of Ethan Stafford, Anthony Bourdon, Tim Brandl and Jason Wallace in a tie for fourth place at plus-1.

Taylor was closest to the pin on No. 9 (13-9) and Ray Demartino posted the longest drive.

Phil Phillips bested the Gold Tee field, scoring a plus-8 point quota. Peter Jenkins was next at plus-5, followed by Roger Rulewich in third place (plus-3). Jenkins was closest to the pin on No. 3 (34-0) and Richard DeGray was closest at No. 9 (25-1½). 

Timmons League

Neal Slocombe and Scott Bennett shot 34 to earn low gross honors at Wednesday’s Timmons League, played at Northfield Golf Club.

George Northrop and Dan Grybko were second at 37. The low net went to Dave Albert and Dan Castine, who won a match of cards at 28 to best Doug Turners and Dave Bonnett. Bennett was match medalist at 35, followed by Doug Farrick at 39.

Closest to the pin on No. 6 was Harry Hyams (5-10) and Jack Letourneau was closest on No. 7 (5-10).
