GREENFIELD — After 10 years of commuting to Amherst, a Greenfield resident has brought her talents closer to home with the opening of her new salon.

Nima’s Nails — owned by Purnima “Nima” Dodge and her husband, Chris, of Greenfield — officially opened at 365 Main St. on Tuesday.

Although an opening date hadn’t previously been set, the state shutdown brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic did delay the opening of their salon, she said.

“It’s definitely a hard time to start … but I feel like we’re all in the same boat,” Dodge said. “I don’t feel alone. I feel like people are more understanding.”

Dodge said customers can expect a variety of health and safety measures in place, ensuring both she and her clients are safe.

As they enter, clients will be expected to wash and then sanitize their hands. Plexiglas guards have been installed at both the manicure and pedicure stations, and Dodge sanitizes everything a client touches, including door handles and foot baths.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep each other safe,” she said.

For now, the salon won’t be offering fake nails so as to minimize the amount of time a client spends in the salon, Dodge explained.

The first-time business owner, who has about 10 years of experience in the business, said the salon has been busy in its first few days.

“It’s been great. … I’ve been meeting great people here,” she said. “People are so lovely and kind.”

The salon is open by appointment only from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To make an appointment, customers can call 413-824-2055.
