LEYDEN — Monday’s annual town election had only one contested race, for the position of town moderator, which saw incumbent Katherine DiMatteo re-elected.
According to Town Clerk Nicole Glabach, DiMatteo received 76 more votes than her challenger, Lance Fritz.
A total of 94 ballots were cast, according to Glabach. Of that, only eight were absentee ballots, with the other 86 ballots cast in person. With 549 registered voters, Leyden saw a roughly 17 percent voter turnout.
Glabach said the annual town election can be a talked about event, and often sees people gather outside the polls. Due to lasting health precautions from the COVID-19 pandemic, she said residents were not able to socialize this year.
“Elections are usually a gathering time, so that part was kind of tough,” Glabach said.
With added health precautions and social distancing policies in place, Glabach said the election went smoothly.
