According to a GCC press release, Franklin County first responders will lead the parade, followed by the vehicles of graduates and their families. The parade route will take the graduates on one last ride through the campus, and will end with GCC President Yves Salomon-Fernandez, faculty and staff members holding signs of encouragement and congratulatory messages, and handing out gift bags.
The parade will be broadcast using Facebook Live, the release states.
GREENFIELD — The Franklin County Bar Association has announced that Grace Poplawski of Mohawk Trail Regional School and Joseph Kochan of Turners Falls High School are the 2020 recipients of the Thomas W. Merrigan Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarships, each for $1,000, honor Thomas W. Merrigan, who was a zealous legal advocate, writer and believer in the importance of education, according to a Franklin County Bar Association press release. The applications were judged on the basis of academic achievement, personal achievement and the quality of their essays.
Bar Association Scholarship Committee members are attorneys Jeremy Bucci, Isaac Mass and Kathleen Simanski. Applications are made available each year in January.
GREENFIELD — The Department of Public Works is encouraging community members to flush their pipes to prevent water quality from degrading as a result of stagnation while buildings are shut down or being used less frequently amid the pandemic.
“Flushing out the pipes clears out the stagnant water,” DPW Director Marlo Warner explained in a press release. “It is always a good practice to flush all water supply lines in any building after a prolonged closure to ensure that fresh water is in the system.”
All water-using appliances, such as ice machines and dishwashers, should have their pipes flushed as well, the release states. Flushing the pipes will also recharge or fill sewer system traps, which can allow sewer odor into a building when they are dry.
Contact the DPW at 413-772-1528, ext. 6106 with questions or concerns.
