Sunderland Public Library is open for curbside pick up of library items. The service, which began June 1, is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m . to 5 p.m.

According to a press statement, the library anticipates offering evening and Saturday hours in the coming weeks. Patrons are welcome to call or email the library to request books, CD audiobooks, DVDs, magazines and more. The library can only offer items from their own library at this time, as statewide delivery between libraries has not resumed. However, Sunderland Public Library has thousands of items available in stock at the library now. Home delivery is also available for patrons who are unable to leave their homes.

Call the library at 413-665-2642 or email director@sunderlandpubliclibary.org with questions about these services or to place an order.

To find items and request pickup, first search the library’s online catalog by visiting catalog.cwmars.org. Limit the search query to “Sunderland Public Library,” as the library cannot borrow items from other libraries. Alternatively, patrons can tell staff members what kinds of books you like, such as mysteries, picture books about dogs, and the librarians can pick out titles they think you will enjoy.

Once ordered, schedule a time to pick up the items. Select from the library’s available hours a time slot to pick up the items, and the library will contact you to confirm. Items will be checked out, cleaned, placed in a bag with the patron’s first name on it and set outside of the library’s entrance for pick up at the designated time.

Library staff wear gloves and face masks the entire time they handle the items, the press statement says. Patrons are asked to wait a safe distance away if another patron is picking up their items at the same time.

Items can be returned in the School Street library’s book drop. Returned items will be placed into quarantine and then cleaned before being returned to the general collection.
