GREENFIELD — Depending on how you look at it, there is either one or three reasons Liberty Tax moved its Greenfield operations last month.
Owner Todd Cromack said it comes down to “location, location, location.”
The tax return preparation service franchise went from 145 Federal St. to 108 Federal St., opening at the new spot on May 1, and Cromack said he has received favorable comments from clients.
“I wanted a store location with visibility, and this has much more visibility,” he said. “We basically outgrew the space.”
The new location, at the corner of Federal and Pleasant streets, was the site of J&M Futon for nearly 26 years. The building is owned by the family that owns the Beijing House restaurant at 45 Main St. The former location, which Liberty Tax left on April 30, is next to Tito’s Taqueria.
Cromack said Liberty Tax has stayed open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic because tax preparation services are considered an essential business. But he said his location is adhering to social-distancing guidelines and offers remote filing and customer drop-off to reduce the amount of foot traffic in the physical office space.
Cromack, who purchased the business in 2013, said his location is an exceptionally busy tax preparation office, ranked 38th out of 1,800 Liberty Tax franchises in the country in terms of the number of returns processed. He said only one New England location (in Lynn) conducts more business.
