FirstLight announces limited reopening of parks, facilities

NORTHFIELD — In accordance with Gov. Charlie Baker’s Phase 1 reopening guidelines, FirstLight Hydro Generating Co. has opened certain recreation areas.

The facilities at Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center, Riverview Park and Barton Cove are now open for trail and open space use only. However, restroom facilities and picnic tables at these parks are not available for use because they cannot be sanitized per state guidelines. Guests are asked to carry out their trash, rather than use the trash receptacles.

The following is a list of FirstLight’s local facilities and their availability:

■Munn’s Ferry Boat Camping Area in Northfield — Closed

■Bennett Meadow Wildlife Management Area in Northfield — Closed for events, open for trail use

■Boat Cruise and Riverview Picnic Area in Northfield — Open, except for picnicking and boat cruises; no restroom access

■Northfield Mountain Trail System, Visitors Center and Mountaintop Observation Area in Northfield — Open for trail use, but closed for picnicking; no restroom access

■Barton Cove Nature Area in Gill — Open for hiking, but campground and canoe and kayak rentals are closed; no restroom access

■Cabot Camp in Millers Falls at the Millers River — Open

■Cabot Wood Fishing Access Area in Montague — Open

■Branch Canal Area in Montague — Open

■Turners Falls Fishway Viewing Area in Montague — Closed

■Canoe Portage Service in Montague — Closed

■Poplar Street Access in Montague — Open for self hand carry only
