It is not difficult to ascertain the dominant political perspective here in Franklin County with just a quick glance at headlines or the editorial/opinion pages.

Yet, too, the placement of an article is telling. In a recent edition, news about General Flynn appeared on page A7 with headline “Justice Dropping Flynn’s case.”

I happen to disagree with AG Barrr’s final decision, based on the examination he set up, to simply drop the charges. I think the AG may have had the whole country’s interest at heart to restore faith in the FBI and government in general.

Every day in this country, lawsuits are settled based on “agreements” that frequently do not pass anyone’s smell test. Every day citizens will accept, admit and astonish themselves on what they will acknowledge to make costly lawsuits go away.

Sometimes I think our leaders think we are stupid — particularly in what they tell us. Do they not know that TV viewers of law and order type shows or readers of crime novels have long understood that they are rotten apples within law enforcement. And, yes, truth is stranger than fiction.

Dropping these charges against Flynn avoids the FBI being on the stand themselves. The FISA Court signed off on warrants based on lies. This country almost saw a complete coup d’etat as some did not like the election results.

As I have said to my granddaughter, I won’t live long enough (good history writing takes place 50 years later) to read the books that will be written about this time. For now, watch and listen how this is reported. Words matter.
