WENDELL — The town election has been postponed to Monday, June, 1, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement from Town Clerk Gretchen Smith, Wendell, like other towns, is encouraging a mail-in election using the early voting process.

“We are still obligated to have the polls open on election day, and so we will do that as well and as safely as we know how,” the notice reads.

Polls will be open at the Town Office building at 9 Morse Village Road from noon to 7 p.m. on June 1. New voters or those who have changed their address in Wendell need to fill out a new voter registration form on or before Friday, May 22. The deadline to apply for early voting or an absentee ballot is Friday, May 29, at noon.

According to the notice, on June 1, the polling place will be set up so that no more than two voters are in the room at once. The way in and out of the building will be enforced by the constable and/or election warden. Voters are encouraged to bring their own pens or pencils, masks and gloves.

Additionally, physical distance between poll workers and voters will follow the 6-foot social distancing rule. The notice states that voting booths will be disinfected after every use, and the single-use pencils provided at the polling site will be dropped into a container at the checkout table.
