The “Scare tactic” letter from Priscilla Senior (April 29) perfectly illustrates the adage “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they’re not entitled to their own facts.” The coronavirus is not just the annual flu, and there are very good reasons for the extraordinary measures currently being taken to try to keep the pandemic under some kind of control.

I respect Ms. Senior’s right to her own opinion and I’ve appreciated the Recorder’s very solid and extensive reporting on the crisis so far, but it’s disappointing that the paper opted to publish this. With misinformation and denial continuing to circulate (sometimes from within our own federal government), there are actual public health risks in giving these mistaken ideas a platform without some kind of counter-balancing statement.
