GREENFIELD — Several residents of a Pierce Street apartment were displaced after a fire Wednesday evening.

The Greenfield Fire Department responded to the call at 5:25 p.m. Firefighters arrived to 90 Pierce St. to find an active fire on the second floor of a multi-family apartment building.

The second floor sustained fire and water damage, according to Fire Chief Robert Strahan. There was also water damage on the first floor.

The fire was extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported, he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Strahan said tenants are working with the Red Cross and the property owner to find temporary accommodation.

The department received mutual aid from fire departments in Turners Falls, Deerfield, South Deerfield and Bernardston.
