Sad to say, COVID 19 isn’t our only world-wide crisis. Climate change is the big one knocking at our door. We’ve seen many more weather-caused disasters in the last years than ever before (think fires in Australia, floods in the Midwest). We know many more are creeping up on us (think rising sea levels, poor harvests, species extinction). Changes are occurring that are altering the conditions for all life on this planet.
There is no cure for the climate pandemic, not even prevention, since it’s already here. What we can do is take action to keep it from becoming even worse.
The action is simple: reduce the use of carbon emitting fuels. Currently we’re driving less and buying less. We don’t like it, but that’s part of the cure for COVID. It’s also one of the ways we can reduce the carbon emissions that are the virus behind the climate pandemic.
Other actions are to increase development and use of non-carbon emitting forms of energy (wind, solar and more now on the drawing boards). We must continue to drive less and buy less, but more importantly we must demand action by our governments to reduce our exposure to this non-viral but very real and dangerous threat to life on our planet.
