Carson Gicewicz will finish his hockey career at UMass.
The St. Lawrence senior forward announced on Twitter Wednesday that he is transferring after four years in upstate New York and will skate his final season for the Minutemen.
Gicewicz tweeted: “These last 4 years have been unforgettable. St Lawrence has taught me so much including the value of friendship, leadership, and family. There is no place like Canton and there’s especially no place like Appleton Arena on a Saturday night.
“In October of 2019, I suffered a knee injury that provided me the opportunity for a 5th year of eligibility.
“I’m excited to say that I will be spending my 5th year in school at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst while playing hockey for Coach Carvel!
“To the St Lawrence Community – TEAMMATES, Coaches, Fans, Friends, and all those who I’ve met in Canton – THANK YOU. I can’t wait for my next chapter in Amherst!”
Despite missing six games with an injury, Gicewicz led the Saints with 19 points and a team-high 15 assists during the 2018-19 season.
UMass hockey coach Greg Carvel spent fives seasons coaching St. Lawrence before leading for Amherst in 2016.
Gicewicz was a teammate for two seasons with Jacob Pritchard, who transferred to UMass for his senior season (2018-19).
Gicewicz’s brother, R.J., played for Carvel at St. Lawrence.
