As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Franklin County Bar Association Community Fund has extended the deadline to apply for the Thomas W. Merrigan Memorial Scholarship to May 1.
“We hope that this extended deadline will allow more time for communication between schools and students during school closures,” a statement from Franklin County Bar Association Assistant Executive Director Jennifer Lively reads.
The association will announce the winners on or around June 1. The Planned Law Day Celebrations on June 1 have also been postponed, with a date not yet scheduled.
Two scholarships, each in the amount of $1,000, will be awarded to students who are Franklin County residents, seniors in high school and in pursuit of post-secondary education of any kind.
When determining recipients, the Scholarship Committee will consider academic achievement and quality of an essay. The essay prompt is reflective of the American Bar Association Law Day 2020 theme: “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment.”
Applications were sent to all area schools and can also be obtained on the Franklin County Bar Association’s website, franklincountybar.org, or by emailing fcbar2@franklincountybar.org.
Completed applications and school transcripts can be sent electronically to fcbar2@franklincountybar.org, or by mail to 20 Federal St., Suite 4, Greenfield, MA 01301.
