Changes to affect Transfer Station

NORTHFIELD — No donations for the Salvation Army will be accepted at the Northfield Transfer Station until further notice, as the Salvation Army is temporarily closed, according to a notice from the Northfield Board of Health.

Additionally, effective immediately, dog feces are not to be disposed of at the Transfer Station due to continuing issues with dog feces being forced out of the compactor during compaction. According to Board of Health Chair Bob MacEwen and Franklin County Solid Waste Management District Executive Director Jan Ameen, there is a possibility the Transfer Station will have to close temporarily because the contractor may refuse to pick up and haul away the materials if the problem persists.

Food pantry persists in wake of pandemic

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Food Pantry was open last weekend, finding ways to provide food to recipients without allowing people inside the building. During Monday’s Selectboard meeting, Town Administrator Andrea Llamas said a volunteer took orders and brought food out to customers.

At this time, the food pantry is not able to accept food donations for safety’s sake. However, it can receive food from the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and local grocery stores. Monetary donations are still being accepted.
