Fellow Orange taxpayers maybe had to pinch themselves, as did I, while viewing a dream presentation delivered by Franklin County Technical School Superintendent Richard Martin, with school business manager Russ Kaubris, aired live on AOTV. A recording is accessible online under the title Orange Finance Committee Meeting March 23.
The duo had nothing but good news to share in their annual budget presentation to this member town — financially and scholastically — and in an unwaveringly upbeat tone. Stellar curricula offered by the tech school includes new addition of veterinary sciences and licensed practical nursing; and facilities feature state-of-the-art refurbishments. What’s more, FCTS was the only tech school in the commonwealth to be named to the Advanced Placement Honor Roll of 18, distinguished from a pool of 370.
Financially: School leadership has proactively won competitive grant funding at every turn, not to mention the cafeteria head’s turning enough profit in her few years there to have covered the modern refurbishment of the cafeteria. Not a single lament or excuse or plea for more from the taxpayer was delivered in the presentation. Exemplary.
