We appreciate Max Marcus’s article in Tuesday’s edition on the steps being taken in the town of Montague during this trying time.

We would like to add that the Montague Center Fire Department still stands ready to assist the residents of Montague Center and Lake Pleasant who depend on us for fire and first responder services.

Our station is closed to public entry and we are keeping it clean for our responders who need to access the building and equipment. Our firefighters and EMTs have the protective equipment needed to respond to emergencies in our fire district.

It is crucial at a time like this that the public have accurate information. Please make sure that articles about public safety get the necessary research to accurately describe the sources of emergency assistance in the areas you cover.

Our department can be reached through the Shelburne Control Dispatch Center, by leaving a message at 413 367-2757, or through the chief’s email chief@montaguecenterfire.com. We also share information on our FaceBook page.

Thanks.
