After launching a cross country and international tour in late February, Ashfield-based Double Edge Theater has canceled the remainder of its tour in the wake of health concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release, Double Edge Theater Founder Stacy Klein said the troupe was in the middle of its run of “Leonora & Alejandro: La Maga y el Maestro” in Albuquerque, N.M., when the remainder of the Revolutions Festival, in which they were performing, was necessarily canceled. The troupe had already performed SUGA in Austin, Texas, prior to this.

“It is our community that sustains us, and makes the heartbreak of this cancellation, both on an artistic and financial level, survivable,” Klein wrote in the notice to Double Edge supporters.

According to Klein, many members of the theater and season ticket holders had been aware of the tour or helped prepare for the tour, which began to be arranged two years ago. Several supporters had even made plans to follow on tour, and some were able to see the performance in Austin and Albuquerque.

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your participation and love,” Klein wrote.

In addition to the tour being cut short, Klein said Double Edge Theater has canceled all programming at its main property in Ashfield from now until April 25. This includes all training programs scheduled as well as any community activities. The Greenfield Community College courses taught by theater members will be conducted online.

“We invite you to use our beautiful lands for a walk and a ‘distanced hello’ if you need to get out and are close by,” Klein wrote to neighbors and supporters. “Our offices and our ensemble are reachable as always by phone and email, for questions or just to talk. We will keep you posted as we all find out more about future programming.”
