‘Frozen 2’ screening set for today

NORTHFIELD — Dickinson Memorial Library is hosting a screening of “Frozen 2” Friday at 2 p.m.

Dictionary editor to speak in Warwick

WARWICK — Join Merriam-Webster Senior Editor Emily Brewster for a peek into a lexicographer’s view of the dictionary on Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Warwick Free Public Library.

While the dictionary is frequently called upon to justify positions and settle debates, most people know relatively little about how dictionaries are made and what their aims are. Brewster will talk about language change, annoying words and just how it is that a term like “chillax” comes to qualify for a dictionary entry.

Speaker to discuss making Windsor chairs

NORTHFIELD — Learn how Windsor chairs have been designed and built for centuries during a free talk at Dickinson Memorial Library on Friday, March 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Patrick Perkins uses the same tools and techniques to make Windsor chairs that were used by 18th-century American colonists. During his presentation, Perkins will describe the types of wood used in chair construction, and how wood is taken directly from logs and fashioned into chair parts. He will also share examples of the antique-style tools used, and how milk paint and oil are combined to produce a durable finish.
