The Western Massachusetts Senior High School All-Star Games at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, scheduled for March 19, are canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. 

Anthony Peterson of Turners Falls and Charlie Barnes of Mahar Regional were scheduled to play. 

In the girls game, Jocelyn Crowningshield of Franklin Tech was the lone Franklin County athlete scheduled to play. 

Baseball

Montague Rec Registration

The Montague Parks and Recreation Department is taking registration for its Tee Ball and Rookie League baseball programs. 

Tee Ball is for children ages 4 through 6, with the season running from April 25 until June 6, taking place on Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m at Unity Park. 

Early bird registration fee is $35 for Montague residents and $40 for non-residents. The early bird fee runs through March 20, with the price after being $40 for Montague residents and $45 for non-residents. The registration deadline is Friday, March 29 or until the roster is full. Proof of age is required at registration. 

Rookie League baseball is for kids age 7 through 9, with the league taking place from April 25 until June 6. Intrasquad games are on Saturday mornings from 9-10:30 a.m. at Unity Park. 

The cost is $40 for Montague residents and $45 for non-residents, with the cost including a hat, shirt and pants. Each player must bring their own glove and cleats are allowed. 

The league is a coach-pitch instructional program. Registration ends on March 27 or until the rosters are full.

Baseball Registration 

Greenfield Minor League Baseball canceled in-person registration on Saturday. Online registration will continue to be open at GMLB.org.

The final in-person registration, which needs to be evaluated, is scheduled for Saturday March 21, also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greenfield Elks. 

It is encouraged to attend one of the registrations to be sized for uniforms.  There will be a coaches meeting Wednesday March 25 at 7 p.m., also at the Elks on the lower level near the Federal Street entrance. 

Anyone interested in managing must attend or notify Matt Zraunig (413-522-4016) prior to the meeting. Tryouts will be Saturday, March 28. 

Players will be notified of their tryout time and location during the week leading up to that date.

Valley Wheel 

The Valley Wheel Over-30 baseball league has roster openings for their game in Cooperstown at Doubleday Field on Friday, Sept. 4. 

The game is from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with spots on the team open to anyone who would like to play. 

The fee is $60 due by April 4 to reserve a spot on the team. Two teams of 10 players will make the trip.
