GREENFIELD — Starting Saturday, you’ll be able to find a variety of things on the second floor of 207 Main St.
The quaint space over the railroad tracks is sort of like a brick-and-mortar tag sale, carrying inventory including cleaning supplies, flat-screen televisions, toys, clothes, costume jewelry, bags of dog treats and individual packets of Advil. But the reptiles are not for sale.
Rachael Hurley, owner of Rachael’s Closet, said three of her lizards and Michelangelo the turtle will be simply pets for show to keep customers company. Hurley plans to hold a grand opening beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
“As you can see, I take very good care of my stuff. A lot of it is still in packages, still in tags,” she said Thursday morning, adding that she often attends flea markets, tag sales and going-out-of-business sales. Her goods are never purchased wholesale.
Born in New Hampshire, Hurley grew up in Ludlow and Chicopee, and previously worked as a home health aide before putting all her savings into her new endeavor. She moved to Greenfield in September 2018.
Hurley said city officials have suggested she take donations to sell, but the 35-year-old said she has too much personal merchandise to take that step.
“Right now, I want no donations. I’ve already had people knock on my door. People call me, tell me they have bags, boxes, of stuff for me. Right now, I can’t do it,” she said. “I just buy so much stuff.”
Hurley said she will sell other items, such as socks, toothbrushes and handbags, and will retail incense sticks at six for $1. She also said she has boxes of perfume she will soon bring to her shop.
The space is to the left at the top of the staircase at 207 Main St. The rooms to the right will be used for storage, though one will eventually be used as a retail space.
Rachael’s Closet will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays through Mondays. It will be closed Tuesdays. The business can be reached at 413-222-9808.
