MONTAGUE — Matty Blake, host of the History Channel’s “The Curse of Oak Island” companion talk show called “Drilling Down,” will speak in Montague next week to raise money for a Franklin County Technical School extra-curricular program.
Blake will be at the Ja’Duke Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday. The program is: a meet-and-greet at 7 p.m., a presentation by Blake about his involvement with the show at 8 and a viewing party of that night’s episode of “The Curse of Oak Island” at 9.
Tickets are $10. There will likely be raffles, too, according to Cynthia Bussey, the Franklin Tech teacher coordinating the fundraiser.
The event will raise money for the Business Professionals of America, a student organization that recently qualified to compete in a national web design competition in Washington D.C. in May, Bussey explained. The group needs to raise about $5,000. She said she expects there to be more fundraisers this spring to help cover costs related to food and extra events for the students.
“The Curse of Oak Island” is a reality show in which a team of people from diverse backgrounds try to find a legendary treasure that is supposedly hidden on Oak Island in Nova Scotia.
“But most people don’t get that out of the show,” Bussey said. “Most people watch it for the teamwork and the bonding of the team members.”
Bussey is a fan of the show. Through attending regional events, she learned that Matty Blake, who hosts an offshoot show called “The Curse of Oak Island: Drilling Down,” lives in Massachusetts, and often does free speaking events for school fundraisers.
Tickets can be purchased through Ja’Duke — online, at jaduketheater.com; or at Ja’Duke’s box office, which is open Monday through Thursday from 5:15 to 7 p.m.
